Sadha Waran (Dal)

This is a recipe for the simple yellow dal that is prepared in most Marathi homes. It is easy to cook and delicious when served with Tup/ghee (Indian clarified butter).

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 30 mins

Ingredients:
Toori  / Toor Dal  - 1 cup
Salt - 1 tsp
Turmeric (Haladi) - 1/4 th tsp

First wash the dal with water 2-3 times. After that put the dal in a pressure cooker and add the salt and the halad followed by about 3 cups of water. Pressure cook the dal for about 16-17 minutes. Have the gas turned to high till the first whistle and then lower it to medium for the next 2-3 whistles.

After turning of the gas wait for about 10 minutes for the cooker to cool off. Once all the steam has left the cooker open it and crush the dal with a 'ravi' or the flat side of a spoon. Then add some warm water to dilute the dal and bring it to boil. Let it boil for a few minutes and your dal is ready to be eaten.

The thickness of the dal can be decided on personal preference. It can be eaten along side more bhaji (sabji) with some tup (ghee)  added to each serving.
